The power of growth and giving with Devu

Devu Thapa Magar lives in Basbari with her husband and 2 children. For the past 4 years, she has worked in the production sector at Beads for Life, where she has found her own path towards  Her journey has taught her that true growth comes not only from personal achievements, but also from the ability to give back to the community.

At 39, I’ve learned that life is a journey of growth, like a flower blooming over time. My husband works as a security guard at the Chinese Embassy, while I’ve found my own path working in the production sector at Beads for Life.

Originally from Sindhuli, I came to Kathmandu 14 years ago, seeking opportunities to grow. After taking time off to care for my young children, I returned to work here about four years ago. I have felt many changes since I started working at Beads for Life. Things are different when you start earning. Before, we relied only on my husband’s income, but now I can contribute to the needs of my family, especially for rent, food, and our children’s education.

Life’s true bloom comes not just from what we gain, but from what we give.

I’m deeply inspired by a woman in my neighborhood who, despite her struggles, gives selflessly to stray cats and dogs. Her kindness reminds me that even in the hardest circumstances, we have the power to bloom - by sharing love and compassion with others. Seeing her makes me reflect on the power of giving and how, despite our own struggles, we can still make a positive impact. I wish for more women around the world to find the opportunity to bloom. This can happen not only through acts of kindness but also by having the chance to educate themselves and earn their own income. With these opportunities, I believe more women can create brighter futures.
